3M EMBARKS ON ELEPHANTINE CAMPAIGN

The London, Ont.-based 3M Canada Company launched a national print ad in magazines this week featuring the firm's duct tape and a five-ton elephant named Ganesha. The ad, which touts the innovation of 3M's products, tells the story of how 3M's duct tape came to the aid of Ganesha and her handlers at the Calgary Zoo. In order to recover from an operation on an infected foot, Ganesha had to wear a specially designed boot. Deciding duct tape would be the best method of keeping the boot in place, the Calgary Zoo contacted 3M, which offered to donate the duct tape. So far, Ganesha has gone through an estimated seven miles of the tape. 3M handles its advertising in-house.
