PALMER JARVIS HAS BIG SHOWING AT BESSIES

Palmer Jarvis Advertising of Vancouver was the big winner at the 1997 Bessie Awards yesterday. The agency walked away with the gold Bessie for work it had done for Save-On-Foods and a silver Bessie for work it created for Playland Amusement Park. In addition, Palmer Jarvis grabbed third place in the campaign category for its Save-On-Foods entry. Axmith McIntyre Wicht of Toronto won the bronze Bessie for a commercial for Labatt Breweries of Toronto. Leo Burnett Co. of Toronto won top honors in the campaign category, while BBDO came in second. Merit awards in the campaign category were given to Axmith McIntyre Wicht, BBDO's Vancouver office, Roche Macaulay & Partners Advertising and Ogilvy & Mather Canada Ltd. BBDO creative director and executive vice-president Michael McLaughlin was presented with the Fritz Spiess award, while Flashcut Editing senior partner Bob Kennedy was this year's recipient of the Bob Mann Post Production award. The Kari award was given to David Huband for his performance in a TV commercial for the Hockey Hall of Fame. The Walter Bell Award was given to Humber College student Allen Oke. The first place winner of the Jeffrey Reneau Award was Centennial College Student Tony Walsh. Second place was presented to Ontario College of Art & Design student Michael Morrow, while Centennial College student Jennifer Barnes received third place.
