IBM RELEASES NEW THINKPAD

U.S.-based International Business Machines Corp. introduced a new ThinkPad notebook computer to the North American market this week. Called the ThinkPad 380, the model features an integrated hard drive, floppy drive and CD-ROM drive in one unit, a 12.1 inch screen, 16 MB RAM and a 150 MHz Intel Pentium processor available with, or without, MMX technology. The package also includes Lotus SmartSuite and NetFinity software. IBM is targeting the ThinkPad 380 at both the business and consumer markets. A national print campaign running in newspapers began yesterday along with radio spots. IBM is also holding "A Better Place To Think" sweepstakes on the Internet. A ThinkPad 380 and related prizes will be awarded every six weeks. Ogilvy & Mather of Toronto handles IBM Canada Ltd.'s advertising. Goodman Communications of Toronto is supporting the ThinkPad 380 release with PR.
