PEPSICO AND SARA LEE TO MARKET NEW FRESH GOODS

PepsiCo Inc.'s Frito-Lay division and Sara Lee Corp. will unite to develop and market fresh, single-serve, baked goods. Sara Lee, located in Chicago, traditionally specialized in frozen desserts, but has been slowly moving towards fresh goods. Frito-Lay, based in Plano, Texas, has dominated the salty-snacks market. Together, the two companies will sell a product line that will likely feature danishes, donuts and snack cakes. The foods will be sold under the brand name Sara Lee, but distributed by Frito-Lay. The two companies have not yet decided how widely the new products will be sold, nor where the test markets will be.
