SUN MEDIA BUYS LONDON FREE PRESS

Toronto-based Sun Media Corp. has bought the London Free Press daily newspaper and Netmar Inc. from The Blackburn Group of London, Ont. The deal is set to close May 20. The Free Press will beocme part of Sun Media's urban Daily Group of newspapers, joining the Suns in Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary and Ottawa, as well as The Financial Post. Netmar publishes shopper publications and will be integrated into the company's Bowes Publishers group. Ottawa Sun publisher and CEO John Paton has been named president and CEO of the Free Press. The newspaper has a daily circulation of 105,000 and a Saturday circulation of 135,000.
