IBM REACHES AGREEMENT WITH 3COM

The takeover of Chipcom Corp. by 3Com will lead to advances in the field of "enterprise networking," for IBM. The U.S.-based computer giant anounced recently that its networking division has signed a development and marketing pact with 3Com "in the rapidly growing field of enterpirzxe networking." This came about after 3Com made a deal to take over Chipcom Corp. IBM has a development, manufacturing and marketing alliance with Chipcom, under which they have developed campus networking systems. IBM and Chipcom will continue their alliance, and say they intend "to expand that agreement into new product areas and to explore additonal, opportunities for cooperation in the field of networking." 3Com works with Ethernet and Fast Ethernet networking technology while IBM works with Token ring and AIM.
