MOLSON INDYS TO DRIVE ON

The federal government has assured the operators of the Toronto and Vancouver Indy car racing events that it will amend its anti-tobacco legislation, Bill C-71, to allow tobacco companies' logos to continue appearing on Indy race cars. Passed last week, Bill C-71 restricts most forms of tobacco company advertising, including sponsorship. Molstar Sports and Entertainment, which operates the Canadian Indys, had said previously that the bill would drive the Indy events out of Canada. The promise of amendments later in 1997 came in a letter from Health Minister David Dingwall to Brent Scrimshaw, Molstar Sports and Entertainment's president.
