BC STATION BEEFS UP NEWS TEAM

Western International Communications Ltd.'s Victoria-based TV station, CHEK 6, is in the midst of a reorganization. Warren Olson, previously BCTV's finance and administration vice-president, has taken over as CHEK's vice-president and general manager. Former MPP Judy Tyabji's open-line TV talk show has been added to CHEK's mid-day slot. Also, news bureaus have been added in Nanaimo and Campbell River to provide better coverage of Vancouver Island. CHEK's only other full-time bureau is in Victoria. Finally, CHEK is preparing to hit the road with a microwave-equipped truck, which will allow the station to cover late-breaking stories across the island. Art Reitmayer, president and CEO of CHEK's parent BCTV, told Adnews more changes would follow shortly. When the further improvements have taken effect, Reitmayer said the station will launch an ad campaign to promote the reorganization. CHEK's advertising is handled in-house with agencies hired on a project basis.
