By Adnews Staff
MDC Communications Corporation of Toronto purchased Toronto-based news distribution service News Canada last week. News Canada distributes newspaper columns carrying stories and information about clients of the service, in both official languages, to news outlets across the country. The service has access to 1,250 weekly and daily newspapers, 350 ethnic newspapers, 1,300 magazines, 400 radio stations and 500 TV and cable stations. News Canada will become a member of MDC's Communications and Marketing Services Division. Michel Frappier, president of the division, said the acquisition of News Canada will give other MDC companies promotional exposure as well as giving them a database of 25,000 communications and marketing contacts. MDC Corporation is the parent company of a number of firms involved in marketing-communications. MDC owns 40% of Toronto agency Ambrose Carr Linton Carroll.
