NEW MEDIA LEARNING INITIATIVE LAUNCHES

A federally-backed marketing initiative focusing on learning products and programs opened for business last week. Called the Canadian Network for New Media Learning, the program's goal is to provide "one-stop access to Canadian education and training products and services." Using the Internet and professional consultants, the network will market products and services from formal educational institutions, private training organizations and multimedia developers. In addition, the network will provide information and brokering services for training and education organizations. Impetus for the network was provided by the Alberta Association of Courseware Producers and the Forum des inforoutes et multimedia in Quebec. Groups participating or expressing interest in the network so far include Certified Management Accountants (Quebec), Ordre des administrateurs agrees du Quebec, the Edmonton New Media Initiative and SkillNet of B.C. The network has offices in Edmonton and Montreal.
