Salvation Army readies National Thrift Shop Day

Charitable organization The Salvation Army will conduct a promotion on Aug. 17 called “National Thrift Shop Day.” The initiative will encourage consumers to donate clothes and household items at any of the organization’s 106 stores nationally on that day. Stores will also offer 30% discounts on their on-sale items and conduct a contest featuring the charity’s spokescharacter, Shieldy. The promotion will also include social media activities.

“We're very different in what we do and offer as compared to other thrift stores,” said Ted Troughton, managing director of The Salvation Army Thrift Store National Recycling Operations. “The goal of our stores is to provide support for The Salvation Army's programs, services and emergency relief efforts which serve the communities where our generous donors, guests and those in need live side by side.”
