SEGA TO BUY BANDAI

Japan-based Sega Enterprises is buying Bandai Co. Ltd. of Japan to keep up with competition in the video game market. The sale price of the company is $1.09 billion(US). Sega will use Bandai's video game designers and toy characters such as the Power Ranger, Sailor Moon, Ultraman and Dragonball to develop more games. In Canada, advertising for Sega is done by Ingalls Moranville Advertising of San Francisco, while Media Experts of Montreal does Canadian media buying. Temple Scott & Associates does Canadian PR. Bandai's Canadian advertising is created by J. Walter Thompson of Toronto. The new company will be called Sega Bandai and will be formed Oct. 1. This will make the company about twice the size of Nintendo Ltd. of Japan.
