BELL RINGS IN SERVICE WITH CAMPAIGN
By Adnews Staff
Bell Canada introduced a new service to the Toronto area this month that allows customers to dial their phones without touching a keypad. Called VoiceDialing, the service was first launched in the Hamilton, Ont. area last fall. To use VoiceDialing, customers contact a Bell representative. The service will work with both rotary and TouchTone phones and requires no additional equipment. Once connected to the service, customers can set up a voice directory by recording a name and entering a number for that name. When the number is established in the voice directory, customers will be able to phone it by merely voicing the name into the phone. The service will work with any language, because it's based on phonemes, which are the building blocks of any spoken language. Bell plans to have the service rolled out to all of Ontario by the end of 1997. Advertising for VoiceDialing will begin in by March and will use TV ads and direct mail pieces produced by BBDO Canada of Toronto. The campaign will be restricted to the Hamilton, and Toronto areas.
