SPRINT ON ITS WAY UP
By Adnews Staff
Sprint Canada is on its way to becoming the No. 1 alternative to Canada's major telephone companies. It posted a 177% year-over-year increase in second quarter revenue. Sprint is owned by U.S.-based Call-Net Enterprises. Although Call-Net is losing money, Sprint's business is growing. The number of long-distance minutes billed jumped 127% from last year to 357 million minutes. Part of its growth can be attributed to the problems at Unitel Communications. Although Sprint lost $40 million in the first six months of this year, Unitel is undergoing ownership uncertainties, and trying to restructure $650 million of debt. It lost $100 million in the first quarter alone. Advertising for Sprint is done by Toronto-based Grey Advertising.
