COGECO SELLS OFF PUBLISHING ARM

Montreal-based Cogeco Inc. has sold its publishing subsidiary to G.T.C. Transcontinental Group so it can concentrate on cable distribution and broadcasting. The division, called Publications Dumont, publishes 30 weekly newspapers in Ontario and Quebec with a total circulation of about 800,000. The deal is expected to close Dec. 2. It is subject to due diligence and various regulatory approvals. G.T.C. Transcontinental of Montreal is involved in the printing, distribution and publishing sectors, as well as in the production of compact discs. The company also provides direct marketing and electronic information services. Cogeco provides cable service to 455,000 basic cable subscribers in five provinces. It also operates two radio stations and four TV stations in Quebec.
