Pink Triangle Press moves to all-digital publishing

Toronto-based Pink Triangle Press will cease print production of its Xtra newspapers in Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver next month, continuing operations as an all-digital publisher. Pink Triangle's properties are aimed at gay and lesbian audiences. Its digital initiatives include news website DailyXtra.com and dating website Squirt.org. The final issues of Xtra Vancouver and Xtra Ottawa will appear on Feb. 12, while the final Toronto issue will be releases on Feb. 19. The closure of the newspapers will result in a staff reduction of 12 full-time employees, leaving a total staff of 57.

"We have a good track record of online engagement through Daily Xtra and other channels like YouTube," said David Walberg, digital media CEO at Pink Triangle Press. "Most of our revenues already come through digital membership sales in the adult dating space, where we've had great success building a growing online community. We are looking to hone our journalism focus and develop a number of our unique strengths."
