CANWEST EDGES ITS WAY ACROSS CANADA

CanWest Global Communications Corp. of Winnipeg has joined forces with Télé-Metropole Inc. of Montreal to operate CKMI, an English-language TV station in Quebec. Télémetropole acquired the station as part of its takeover of Pathonic Network. Under the deal, CanWest and Télémetropole will each have an equal share of the company that will own CKMI. The move will put CanWest in every province except Alberta. Two years ago, CanWest tried to establish a station in Alberta, but the Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission turned it down. CKMI could be up and running under its new ownership by early 1997.
