ACTION DIRECT INTRODUCES NEW PC SERVICE

Action Direct, Royal Bank's discount brokerage service, announced last week that they will soon be offering new computer services for their growing base of clients. PCAction, a proprietary, Windows-based personal computer software package, will allow clients to obtain real-time stock quotes and market information. They will be able to place, change, confirm and cancel stock orders, obtain daily prices and place orders for more than 550 mutual funds, as well as analyze and review all their investment holdings. Applications for the service will be available later this week at Royal Bank or Royal Trust locations in Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The program will be rolled out to British Columbia later this month while Atlantic Canada will have access to the service beginning in November and Quebecers in December. Advertising plans have not been confirmed, but Royal Bank Action Direct marketing and production manager David Birkbeck told Adnews last week that there might be some ads appearing in newspapers and on the Internet by December. Action Direct's campaigns are designed by MacLaren McCann Canada Inc. of Toronto, while Initiative Media, also of Toronto, buys the media.
