BPI LAUNCHES ASIA PACIFIC FUND

BPI Mutual Funds of Toronto launched the BPI Asia Pacific Fund last week. The fund will invest primarily in equity securities of companies located, or with principal activities, in Asia or the Pacific Rim region, not including Japan. The fund's investment advisor is Asia Strategic Investment Limited of Hong Kong, an independent investment management company. BPI Asia Pacific is currently available on a front end or a deferred sales charge option. The company expects the fund to qualify as a mutual fund trust for tax purposes by March 1997, allowing a retirement plan holder to purchase units of the fund as foreign content. Strategy regarding the advertising for the fund is still being formulated, but BPI director of marketing Christine Terashita told Adnews last week that it will probably be integrated into the company's mainstream campaign. That ongoing campaign includes print ads in The Globe and Mail and The Financial Post, as well as in magazines such as Money and Investment Executive. The campaign was created by Simpson Gilbert Chambers of New Brunswick.
