Advertising Standards Canada begins PSA competition

Toronto-based Advertising Standards Canada has launched a new contest called the "ASC PSA Creative Competition." The competition is open to full-time post-secondary students enrolled in a marketing, advertising, communications, media, design or related program. Entrants must submit a 30-second television commercial, a 30-second radio commercial and a print ad addressing the theme "Truth in Advertising Matters." The intent is to provide the organization with new public service announcement creative and to raise awareness of its commitment to advertising that is truthful, fair and accurate.

Submissions will be open from Jan. 27 to March 4. Entries will be posted online at <http://www.truthinadmatters.com>, where public voting will determine 20 finalists. A judging panel will then select five winners, who will receive cash scholarships as prizes. The grand prize will be $10,000.

"We plan to launch a new campaign with the same theme of our original Truth in Advertising Matters PSAs," said Linda Nagel, president and CEO of Advertising Standards Canada. "But this time, we'd like to have our creative developed by the next generation of the advertising industry. Truth and credibility are essential in advertising. We hope the creative minds of students across the country can help us share these important values with Canadians."
