Kinark Child and Family Services begins anti-stigma campaign

Kinark Child and Family Services of Markam, ON is conducting an awareness campaign called "Rise Against Stigma." The online campaign is timed to coincide with Children's Mental Health Week, which runs from May 6 to May 12. The campaign encourages young people to sign an online pledge to support children and youths with mental health issues by speaking out when others make fun of them, and to ask for help with mental health issues if they need it. The promotion is taking place on the organization's Facebook page. It is being supported with a series of online videos in participants describe their own experiences with childhood depression and bullying. "There is a wide spectrum of mental health issues that our kids are facing, from anxiety and depression to eating disorders and schizophrenia," said Cathy Paul, acting president and CEO at Kinark. "Left untreated, these issues can lead to problems in school, at home, and in the community."
