CRTC grants two new FM radio licences

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has granted a licence to Rock 95 Broadcasting to launch a new radio station in Toronto. The station, which will broadcast at 88.1 FM, will be called Rock 95 and will specialize in music from independent and emerging Canadian artists. "Even in the age of digital media, Canadian artists who do not have major label support face a tough road to success," said Leonard Katz, vice-chairman of telecommunications at the CRTC. "Rock 95's station will give much-needed radio exposure to those artists and listeners will have an opportunity to discover new talent." In related news, the CRTC has also granted a licence to Bhupinder Bola to establish a new radio station in Markham, ON at 105.9 FM. The station will carry ethnic contemporary and alternative music programming.
