EXECUTIVE PURGE CONTINUES AT SOUTHAM
By Adnews Staff
Four top executives of Toronto-based Southam Inc. jumped ship on Tuesday, laying the blame at Conrad Black's feet as they went. Andrew Prozes, group president of city newspapers and new media, John Craig, group president of community newspapers and business communications, John Minardi, vice-president of human resources, and Roger Clarkson, vice-president of marketing for newspapers, have all split the scene, citing an uncomfortable change in Southam's direction under new owner Hollinger Inc. as the reason. Black's Hollinger bumped its stake in Southam to 41% on May 24, essentially taking over the newspaper chain. Subsequently, Southam president and CEO William Ardell retired on Aug. 9 and was replaced by Black himself.
