CBC News, Outpost, Manulife conduct volunteerism contest

CBC News and Outpost magazine, in association with Manulife Financial, have begun a contest called "Canada's Champions of Change." The initiative take the form of a search for two Canadian volunteers with a national program in the categories of education, community and culture, the environment, health and wellness, housing and infrastructure and social justice. Nominations can be submitted online at <http://www.cbc.ca/change> until late September. Ten finalists will be selected by a judging panel. Public voting will select two winners. The finalists and winners will receive prize money to donate to the charities of their choice and will also appear on a national television broadcast on CBC and CBC News Network on Jan. 16, 2011. "Volunteerism plays a significant role in our interdependent world," said Outpost publisher Matthew Robinson, "Canadians' extraordinary efforts in sharing their time and talents for those less fortunate is helping us all move forward."
