TORONTO SUN REPORTS JUMP IN EARNINGS

The Toronto Sun Publishing Corp. has reported increased earnings for the second quarter ending June 29. The company's earnings increased to $4.2 million, compared to $3.9 million during the same quarter of 1995. Consolidated revenues for the quarter rose from $93 million in the second quarter of 1995 to $95 million this year. Total advertising linage for the four Suns and The Financial Post grew by 1%. Toronto retail advertising was soft in the early part of the quarter, but increased in June. Net earnings for the six months were down to $3.1 million, compared to net earnings of $4.6 million for the same period last year. Consolidated revenues for the first six months were $180.3 million, compared to $178.2 million in 1995.
