Canada Media Fund established to support digital content

The Ministry of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages will launch a new initiative on April 1 called the Canada Media Fund. The fund is intended to encourage the creation of innovative Canadian digital content and software by providing financial support and industry research. The fund will offer an "Experimental Stream," intended to support interactive content and software creation, and a "Convergent Stream," which will support the creation of convergent television and digital media content. While established digital media such as websites and video-on-demand will be eligible for funding, the initiative will also support emerging, non-mainstream forms of digital communication. "Disbursing over $350 million in funding support, the CMF will strengthen Canada's production and broadcasting industries as they adjust to the evolving content consumption behaviour of Canadians," said Louis Roquet, chair of the board of directors of the Canada Media Fund.
