Canwest readies Minithon Winithon contest

Canwest is preparing a contest promotion in support of its specialty channel TVtropolis. The campaign, which will be conducted in association with TVGuide.ca, promotes the channel's new Minithon programming blocks, which consist of four continuous episodes of various popular sitcoms each weekday. The special programming will run from Aug. 17 to Aug. 28. The contest, called the "Minithon Winithon," will take the form of a trivia contest. Each night, television trivia questions will appear during the programming block, which viewers can answer at TVGuide.ca. The winner will receive a Sharp Aquos LCD television set and Blu-ray Disc player. Other prizes include DVD box sets of the programs being aired. The contest will be promoted with a two-week national campaign aimed at adults between the ages of 25 and 54. It will consist of television ads on TVtropolis, Global and E, as well as newspaper ads in the National Post and in Canwest papers in Vancouver, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Saskatoon and Regina. The campaign was developed by Canwest's in-house creative agency.
