MATSUSHITA DROPS 3DO PRICE

Matsushita Electric of Canada reduced the price this week on its 32-bit Panasonic 3DO Interactive Multiplayer system. The move was made because the company wants to gain an edge on the competition, and because the machine has been on the market for a while, Matsushita spokesperson Vesna Nowell told Adnews this week. The price was reduced from $549.95 to $429.95. Over 200 titles are available for the system, another 10 will be ready before Christmas, and 185 are in development. The game system has been on the Canadian market since last October. It can play games, show photographs, play music or run movies, all from a compact disc. Advertising for the machine is done by DDB Needham Worldwide, and PR by Heather Reid & Associates, both of Toronto. Matsushita in the U.S. reduced the price on 3DO late last month. Sega of Canada sells its 32-bit Sega Saturn game system for $499.
