CANADIAN BROADCASTERS WINNERS AT AWARDS

Canadian TV stations came out big winners earlier this month at the PROMAX & Broadcast Designers' Association international competition. CHEK-TV of Victoria, B.C. took four gold and two silver medals in the promotional animation and the in-house generic TV announcement categories. It also won a BDA bronze for promos or IDs over 10 seconds. CICT-TV of Calgary was the second biggest winner with three gold and two silver PROMAX medals. Two of the golds were for an outdoor/transit ad for the shows Lois & Clark and the X-Files. ITV of Edmonton walked away with a gold and silver PROMAX for its ITV Superbus outdoor transit ad and for the campaign "It's Ours-Chicken, Skeet, Golf, Biker." U.TV of Vancouver snagged three PROMAX silver medals. Two were for in-house generic announcements and one was for its "Where the Surfing Stops" campaign. CITY-TV of Toronto won a silver PROMAX and two bronze BDA awards. Other silver PROMAX winners were CFCF-TV of Montreal and BCTV of Vancouver. The competion attracted more than 4000 BDA entries from 15 countries and another 4000 PROMAX entries from 22 countries.
