METROPOLITAN OFFERS ILLNESS INSURANCE

Ottawa-based Metropolitan Life Insurance Company of Canada introduced critical illness insurance this week. Called MetAssist, the 10-year renewable accident and sickness insurance covers 10 illnesses including blindness, deafness, heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, multiple sclerosis and receiving a major organ transplant. The insurance is available to people aged 18 to 65 and provides coverage ranging from $50,000 to $500,000. Direct mail advertising for MetAssist will begin in the fall. It will be done in-house. Metropolitan Life will also decide at that time if it will launch any other form of advertising campaign for the insurance. If so, it will be done by Young & Rubicam of Toronto. In the meantime, Metropolitan Life sales representatives will be promoting MetAssist with brochures, which were created in-house.
