MILLER TIME FOR ASAHI

Asahi Breweries of Tokyo will have exclusive rights to brew and distribute Miller beer in Japan after a licensing agreement to brew rival American brand Coors runs out at the end of next month. Coors has been Japan's number three beer. Adolph Coors is setting up a subsidiary to develop a distribution network in Japan without a Japanese partner. Miller Brewing Co. had an agreement until the end of last year with Sapporo Breweries but let it expire. While Sapporo sold Miller only in cans, new partner Asahi will distribute the brew n returnable bottles, a move which is expected to increase market share.
