Corus, Hearst ready Cosmopolitan Television

Toronto-based Corus Entertainment has formed a joint venture with Hearst Entertainment and Syndication of New York to launch a Canadian version of specialty channel Cosmopolitan Television. The digital channel, aimed primarily at women, is a brand extension of Cosmopolitan magazine. Similar localized version of the channel also operate in Spain and Latin America. The Canadian channel will debut in early 2008. "With our past experience in creating successful niche-targeted television services and our expertise in marketing to women, Cosmopolitan TV is a perfect fit for Corus," said John Cassaday, president and CEO of Corus. According to the company, the new channel will be aimed at a younger audience than its existing W Network. It will air entertainment and lifestyle programming, including comedies, dramas, reality shows and movies.
