FUJIITSU SOFTWARE

Japan-based Fujiitsu Ltd. is going to be marketing and distributing a mass-data storage system developed by Legacy Storage Systems of Markham, Ont. In March, Legacy acquired the technology that enables it to use standard VHS tapes as a low-cost mass-storage medium. Using the technology, digital storage costs will be reduced enormously. The global market for mass-storage devices is estimated at between $2 billion and $4 billion, and is expected to grow to about $10 billion in 1999. The devices will be used by the medical, financial, business and scientific industries to back up vast amounts of data.
