CHUM to buy The Beat

Toronto-based CHUM Limited has agreed to purchase the radio assets of The Beat Broadcasting Corporation of Vancouver, which owns and operates The Beat 94.5 FM in that city. The station, which is aimed at young adults, plays contemporary pop music. “The Beat is a very attractive and strategic addition to our radio division,” said Paul Ski, radio president at CHUM. “With the acquisition of Vancouver's number one hit music station, CHUM will be able to offer listeners and advertisers a compelling variety of services.” CHUM already operates three stations in Vancouver: soft rock station 103.5 QM-FM, talk radio station CFUN 1410 and sports station The TEAM 1040. The deal is subject to approval by the CRTC. No financial details are available.
