Corus Quebec to take four radio stations from AM to FM

The CRTC handed down a decision last week that will allow Corus Quebec to make four of its AM radio stations available on the FM band. The stations are CKRS in Saguenay, CHLT in Sherbrooke, CHLN in Trois-Rivières and CJRC in Gatineau. “Each one of these four stations plays an essential role in its community as an economic engine, as a high-value forum for several charitable associations and also as privileged witnesses to local news,” said Pierre Arcand, president of Corus Quebec. “We believe that this CRTC decision will enable them to assume these roles in a more extended fashion. It's been proven over a long period of time that moving to FM ensures better service to the community as well as the viability of radio.” All four stations use a talk radio format. They will debut as FM stations in the spring. For several months they will broadcast on both the AM and FM bands, then the AM broadcasts will cease.
