RETAILER OF THE YEAR

Shoppers Drug Mart Ltd. chairman and CEO David Bloom has been given the 1996 Distinguished Retailer of the Year award by the Retail Council of Canada. His contributions to business and the community includes chairing the Ontario Chain Drug Association, the Retail Council of Canada, the Canadian Association of Chain Drug Stores, the Koffler Institute of Pharmacy Management at the University of Toronto and the Ontario Science Centre OMNIMAX Capital Campaign. Bloom started his career as a pharmacist. In 1983 he was named president and CEO of Shoppers and became chairman three years later. The Retail Council of Canada was founded in 1963. It has over 7,000 members including independent store owners, regional retailers and national department and discount chains.
