Sponsorship roundup

Bell Canada has begun a sponsorship campaign to promote its youth cell phone brand, Solo Mobile. The initiative includes sponsorship support for a number of Canadian professional snowboarders and a presence at various ski resorts and snowboarding events. The sponsored athletes include Mercedes Nicoll, Simon Chamberlain, Max Legend, Marie-France Roy and Mike Rencz. They will feature in advertising for the brand and make personal appearances at participating resorts. Customers at these locations will be able to sign out cell phones in order to communicate with each other on the hills using the built-in two-way radios. The promotional tour will include stops at Cypress Mountain in BC, Calgary Olympic Park in Alberta, Mount St. Louis Moonstone in Ontario and Mont Saint-Sauveur in Quebec. An area called the Solo Mobile Lounge will be erected at each stop, where customers can meet the professionals, watch videos and sample the phones. The sponsorship program will also include a contest in association with snowboard brands DC, Option Snowboards and Spy Optic. The winner will receive a week-long trip for four to a snowboard camp on a glacier in June. "We're stoked to get involved in snowboarding at this level and to show Canadian snowboarders that we really care about the sport," said Floyd Rocha, associate director of Solo Mobile. "Solo's walkie-talkie phone is the perfect device for boarders to quickly connect with their friends at the park and on the pipe."
