DATAWAVE GOES OVER-THE-COUNTER

DataWave Vending of Vancouver is now selling long distance time at store counters in North America, as well as in vending machines. The company is doing this because there are a lot more counters than there are places to put vending machines, says a DataWave release. People buying phone time at store counters hand over cash and their cards. The cards are passed through swipe devices to record phone time credits. DataWave is scouting out locations such as convenience stores, gas stations and supermarkets for its over-the-counter service. Retail locations with card swipe machines already installed only need only the right software to adapt to DataWave's system. In March DataWave signed up U.S.-based MCI Telecommunications as its long distance service provider. Advertising for DataWave is done in-house. The Howard Group of Calgary handles investor and public relations.
