BESSIE AWARD WINNERS

MacLaren McCann of Toronto walked away with the top honors at the Bessie awards yesterday. The agency won the gold Bessie for a TV commercial for General Motors of Canada, promoting the Pontiac Sunfire. The Leo Burnett Company of Toronto was a triple winner. The agency came out on top in the campaign category with a series of commercials for Fruit of the Loom and took third place in the same category for a Pillsbury Canada Pizza Pops campaign. It also won a silver Bessie for one of the Fruit of the Loom spots and a bronze Bessie for one of the Pizza Pops spots. Ammirati Puris/Lintas of Toronto took second place in the campaign category for work it did for Labatt Breweries of Canada. The 1996 Spiess Award for lifetime achievement went to Elaine Miiki, a freelance line producer. The Bob Mann Post Production Award was given to Daily Post president Archie Van Dyke. Actor Pete Soucy is the 1996 Kari award winner for his performance in "Snook-Bet" for Newfoundland Telephone.
