LiveDeal.com of Santa Clara, CA, in a joint venture with Toronto-based Torstar, has launched a Canadian version of its online classified advertising service called LiveDeal.ca. The site will allow Canadians to buy and sell goods nationally or locally. According to the company, the site also enables buyers and sellers to meet in person to complete the sale, thereby eliminating shipping costs and reducing fraud. The site also offers an email notification system to inform buyers when a desired item is listed. The service is intended primarily for the sale of large items such as furniture, cars, pets or appliances. The ads will be accessible through <http://www.livedeal.ca> and through the online classified ad sections of The Toronto Star, the Hamilton Spectator, The Record and the Guelph Mercury. Simon Jennings, formerly of Yahoo Canada, has been appointed general manager of LiveDeal.ca.
