Passage: Allan Waters

Allan Waters, founder of Toronto-based CHUM Limited, passed away late last week. Waters began the company with the purchase of Toronto AM radio station 1050 CHUM in 1954 and held the positions of chairman and president of CHUM Limited until 2002. He remained on the board of directors until late October of this year, at which time he stepped down and became an honorary director. Waters had also been the chairman of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters, president of the Central Canada Broadcasters Association and founding chairman of the Radio Sales Bureau. He was also a director of CTV Television and a member of that company's executive committee. A public memorial service for Waters will be held today in Toronto.
