The Toronto-based Ontario Hospital Association began a new informational campaign yesterday called "Your Health Care - Be Involved." The campaign is intended to encourage Ontario medical patients to take a larger role in managing their health care. The materials consists of advice and expertise from health professionals presented as a list of tips for patients to use in a healthcare setting. "Today's patients want more information about their treatment programs, more information about the drugs they are prescribed and more information about what they can do to get better faster," said Rob Devitt, president of Toronto East General Hospital and chair of the OHA's Patient Safety Advisory Group. "The campaign will give patients the information they need to make the most of every visit to their hospitals, their doctors, and their other health care providers." These materials, in 13 languages, include brochures, forms, posters, wallet cards, and an infomercial to be displayed on in-hospital televisions. The program is also being promoted with a multi-city advertising campaign. The campaign was created by the association's Patient Safety Support Service department with funding from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The Ontario Hospital Association is a voluntary organization representing 159 public hospital corporations over 225 sites in Ontario.
