Website roundup

AOL Canada opened a new site at <http://www.aol.ca> yesterday which makes freely available to Internet users the content that was previously accessible only through the company's proprietary service. The site is also intended to be a hub for a collection of broadband-optimized information drawn from AOL's various websites and Time Warner assets. The AOL.ca site will include a video search engine, a collection of music videos, news clips and event broadcasts, a Web-based email service, and 28 channels of Canadian content covering news, sports and entertainment. "The AOL.ca portal will be instrumental in reaching our goal to grow our total online network reach to the number two position in Canada by the end of this year," said Jonathan Lister, audience vice-president at AOL Canada. "The portal allows us to demonstrate our expertise in delivering rich content for broadband users, while attracting more online advertising clients." According to the company, video advertising is expected to play an integral role in the new service.
Chatelaine.com has constructed a new area at its website that contains online games aimed at Canadian women. Located at <http://www.chatelaine.com/games>, the area offers various puzzle and board games such as "Jewel Quest," Diner Dash" and "Mah Jong Quest." "Chatelaine.com has always been a leader in bringing Canadian women what they are looking for and surprising them with innovations that we know they will respond to," said Louise Clements, vice-president of consumer publishing websites at Rogers, the owner of the site. "We continue to do just that with the addition of online gaming. It delivers fun for our users and a high-energy high-traffic environment for our advertisers."
