COSMECEUTICALS GAINING POPULARITY
By Adnews Staff
The U.S. cosmeceutical market will grow to $3 billion(US) by the year 2000, predicts Packaged Facts of New York. In 1995 the market was $630 million. Cosmeceuticals are cosmetics that claim to reduce and/or prevent wrinkles. Cosmeceuticals came on the market three years ago. In 1993, says the research firm, sales of cosmeceuticals drove the entire U.S. skincare market up 8%. Packaged Facts calculates that just over 48% of these products will be sold in mass markets this year, 30.5% by "alternate channels" - defined as media such as direct advertising, TV shopping channels and infomercials - and 21.3% in prestige outlets.
