FIVE CHARITIES UP FOR GOOD CAUSE AWARD

Five charities have been placed on a shortlist for a prize called the Good Cause Award: The Canadian Mental Health Association, Environmental Defence, Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Canada, The Sierra Club of Canada Foundation and Volunteer Canada. The competition was created by Frank Palmer, chairman of DDB Canada. Its principal sponsor is CanWest Global Communications. The winning organization will receive a national public service campaign. The charities will deliver a presentation to a selection panel on Sept. 16. The winning organization will be announced on Sept. 17. Planning for the campaign will begin immediately. The television and newspaper initiative will be developed by DDB Canada and take place in the spring of 2005. It will run until the end of the year on CanWest Global TV and in CanWest newspapers.
