FP CANADIAN NEWSPAPERS BUYS WINNIPEG ASSETS OF TRANSCONTINENTAL MEDIA

FP Canadian Newspapers has acquired five weekly newspapers in Winnipeg from Transcontinental Media as well as Transcontinental's advertising delivery business in Winnipeg and Brandon, MN and Thunder Bay Ontario. Financial details were not disclosed. The five newspapers are The Lance, The Metro, The Herald, The Time and The Headline. They have a combined circulation of 169,000. The advertising distribution business reaches 290,000 households. FP Canadian Newspapers said it will create a wholly-owned subsidiary called Canstar Community News Limited to operate its new weeklies and delivery operations. FP Canadian Newspaper also owns The Winnipeg Free Press and The Brandon Sun.
