SLEEMAN TO PURCHASE UNIBROUE

Sleeman Breweries of Guelph, ON is set to buy Unibroue of Chambly, QC for $36.5 million, including $5.5 million in debt. The deal is expected to close in June. "The acquisition of Unibroue and its premium brands will complement Sleeman's current portfolio, in addition to providing the required infrastructure to expand our presence in Quebec," said John Sleeman, chairman and CEO of Sleeman Breweries. Unibroue beer brands include Blanche de Chambly, Maudite, Fin du Monde, Raftman and 1837. The micro-brewery also brews La St-Hubert for the St-Hubert restaurant chain and La Fringante et La Terrible for the Société des alcools du Quebec. As part of the agreement, Unibroue founder and CEO André Don will take on a consulting position for one year.
