RESTAURANT ASSOCIATION BEGINS ANTI-TAX CAMPAIGN

The Canadian Restaurant and Food Association has hired Toronto-based Enterprise Advertising to handle an advertising campaign concerning the proposed Ontario meal tax. Print ads began running in newspapers in the province yesterday. They encourage people who eat in cafeterias, snack bars and restaurants to fight the proposed removal of the existing tax exemption for meals costing less than four dollars. The ads read, "Indigestion? Maybe it's Ontario's new 8% meal tax." The ads include a cut-out fax form. A Web site has been built at <www.nomealtax.ca> where people can sign a petition opposing the change. The campaign is running in daily and weekly newspapers including the Ontario edition of The Globe & Mail, The Toronto Star, London Free Press, The Windsor Star and The Brampton Guardian.
