ULTRAMAR AND SUNOCO TRADE STATIONS
By Adnews Staff
Montreal-based Ultramar Canada and Toronto-based Sunoco are swapping gas stations in a deal that will make both companies stronger in their home markets. Ultramar will get Sunoco's 127 Quebec gas stations in exchange for the 88 Ontario Ultramar stations that are west of Belleville. Ultramar will keep its stations in the eastERN part of the province. The switch will occur over the next two weeks and sign changes will be completed within two years. Sunoco will also get Ultramar's 50% share in Metro Depot, a distribution terminal in Toronto that is now owned 50-50 by both companies. Currently Ultramar has 1,400 service stations from Ontario to Newfoundland. Sunoco has 340 stations in Ontario. Advertising for Ultramar is handled by PALM Publicité of Montreal. BAM Creative Directions of Toronto does advertising for Sunoco.
