TV MERGES WITH THE PC

A group of U.S.-based high tech and communications companies are working together under the name Intercast Industry Group <http://www.intercast.org> to develop Intercast, a technology that links the Internet and television on home computers. For marketers, it offers possibilities such as having a fashion program accompanied by broadcast Web pages allowing the viewer to order clothing shown in the program. A breaking news story could be linked to additional information on the geography or historical background of the event. A sports program could be accompanied by Web pages with information on individual athletes, as well as live statistics on the athletes, game and league. Intercast technology would allow a PC user to watch TV on one part of the monitor while interacting with broadcast Web pages shown on another part of the screen.
